Born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958, Michael Joseph Jackson has entertained audiences most of his life. Hits as a Motown artist (“I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “Never Can Say Goodbye,” “Got to Be There,” etc.). A product of the 1970s, these boys became one of the most successful black pop/soul singing groups in music history, making their way from groups like the Temptations to a disco phenomenon.

Michael’s solo success was inevitable, and by the 1980s he was much more popular than his group of brothers. Record sales continued to skyrocket, culminating in his 1982 best-selling album, Thriller. A television natural, he ventured into film with trepidation, such as his role of the scarecrow in The Wiz
(1978), but had much better luck with gorgeous music videos. In the 1990s, the flip side began to emerge as a 1980s pop phenomenon.

Michael’s unparalleled fame made him terribly childish and introverted. And despite his numerous acts of philanthropy, he was a constant target of scandal. His second wife had two children, but the intention behind it seemed image-oriented. Michael Jackson died June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. His passion and artistry as a singer, dancer, author and businessman are unmatched, and these amazing talents ultimately triumph over the deeply negative aspects of his difficult adult life.
